We're Starting Our Portfolio Projects

Okay, so the title of this blog may be misleading considering my entire class began working on their portfolio projects on Wednesday but unfortunately I did not. On Tuesday morning, I miserably tested positive for COVID-19 (bummer I know). I missed an entire week of school which included two class periods to work on this film opening with my beautiful partner, Gianna Schultz. In this blog, I am going to take you through my head and the ideas I created since my teacher, Mrs. Stoklosa, said "we're starting our portfolio projects."

The thought of creating my own film opening felt almost like a dream... key word being almost. Over the past couple of months, I have had several ideas for short films so initially, I thought I could turn those ideas into a film opening. My optimism failed me when I realized that this would not be that simple. I also realized that doing this alone would be more difficult than perceived so I did what typically happens to more students when a partner project presents itself: make eye contact with your friend in the class and mentally agree to be partners. Gianna and I work really well together so as soon as we talked about our ideas we were pretty much on the same page.

We were still discussing stroylines but set the vibe for our piece. We decided on a more artistic piece with minimal to no dialogue. The inspiration for this idea was the Luca Guadagnino film "Call Me By Your Name." I loved how the film makes it's viewers feel this other level of emotion and thought without having many words spoken.

Call Me By Your Name (2017)

Other than the overall vision we had, we were stuck. But quite honestly, I didn't care too much. I am too excited to be able to create my very own (and Gianna's obviously) piece of film. And yes, we have made film related pieces but this one feels different. I am excited to see how it goes!
